Knit Picks # 3 / The Christmas Surprise!

I was so excited that I got to make my favorite customer ( and friend ) Emily her very own Throw Sized Blanket!  Not only was it my first time making a throw sized blanket, it was also my first time working with Knit Picks Mighty Stitch!

What I got :

Mighty Stitch

20% Wool 80% Acrylic

Gulfstream, Mullberry, and Mint

Absolutely amazing yarn. I cannot wait to get more once I use up my yarn stash. Its like a cloud in comparison to all other yarns I've ever had.

I made my friend a simple single crochet chevron blanket. It took me about 30ish hours to make? I took my time and wanted it to be as perfect as I could make it. I used a border that can be found here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN0Sj0IBB4U

She actually linked me to this via Facebook and said that it would look really cute on a blanket and she loved it so I did it for her blanket!

Knit Picks # 4 -- Simply Organic Cotton

I had a woman wanting a certified organic cotton blanket. I was pretty excited because I haven't worked with organic yet and I was thrilled with the outcome.

100% Simply Organic Cotton in "Marshmallow" which is undyed and unbleached.
$4.99 for 100g balls with 164 yards.

It was super soft and really easy to work with. I now prefer it over dishie or Lily n Cream which I have used. This cotton wasnt super stretched out or weird while I was working with it and the blanket itself looks beautiful.

Stitch Holders

So why have all these things?

The Nickle Plated Interchangeable Knitting Needle Set -

Though the points are as pointy as I would like them I decided against getting a wood interchangeable needle set only because I ruin the points and they dull pretty easily anyway. I love the Nickle Plated set but I also hate it. I'm not the best knitter and I have trouble sliding my stitches off with ease and these needles are not the somewhere in between, they slide right off so you have to really get used to them. I have straight needles that are wood and aluminum. Even though I like to crochet more, I love knitting hats and now socks thanks to some videos over at Knit Picks Youtube Channel. So I thought an Interchangeable needle set would be perfect for me to be able to make socks and really get into knitting more because its really relaxing and you don't have to watch what your doing as often as you do with crocheting. I love the cords though, but maybe I should have went with the wood. I am not really sure because I haven't been knitting as often as I'd like.

Stitch Markers -

I thought to myself in the beginning of learning knitting and crocheting, "Yeah right who needles those, they seem useless" . Wrong! With a semi short attention span like mine I struggle with remembering how many stitches I have on the hook or how many I've changed. These are a life saver. I haven't dabbled a lot in making garments but I can tell you for a fact that you probably need them!

Stitch n' Bitch Book-

For the first time I actually read the story instead of flipping to the back for the projects. It was brilliant and heart warming and definitely worth the read. The book is full of very informative stuff on knitting that I had no idea about and the patterns are actually really cool. I haven't tried any patterns yet but I did check the back of the book and there is a lovely set of websites and companies that sell yarn so that was helpful.

View Sizer -

The view sizer is a ruler with a magnified section so you can see and count your stitches. Gauging is an important part of crocheting and knitting to be able to get the size that you want.

Bent Tip Tapestry Needles -

Comes in three varying sizes. I love these bent tipped needles they are easier to work with the the regular Tapestry needles needed to hide tails and loose strands in your work

Point Protectors (Large) -

These are great for keeping your stitches from sliding off the hook when you put down your work.

Knit Picks #1

My very first Knit Picks purchase was about 2 months ago. I was ecstatic and couldn't wait for my yarn to arrive. It took a few days to process and a few long days for it to arrive at my doorstep. It is not available in stores and that's fine with me. But waiting so long was definitely torturous because I love having my yarn in hand as soon as possible. With that being said lets take a deeper long into what I got!

Starting from the top and going down from left to right we have:

Palette in Hyacinth

$ 3.49 for a 50g ball
231 yards.
100% Peruvian Highland Wool
Fingering Weight
Knit: # 1-3
Crochet: B-E hook

I wanted to splurge a little so I got this for socks but unfortunately I don't have small enough hooks. It reccomends 1-3 for Knitting and B-E for crochet. I wanted to knit my socks so I figured I could maybe get away with going up to a 4 however that was not the case and I didn't want to risk splitting the yarn. So I have yet to make anything with the yarn.

Moving along we have

Dishie in  Pomegranate and Clementine

$3.99 for 100g ball
190 yards
100% Cotton
Worsted weight
Knit : #7-8 needles
Crochet: I-K hook

I sort of liked this yarn. It isnt exactly worsted weight at least the two that I got. I would of needed to use G or smaller to crochet it. I ended up using it to make coasters and a dish towel made with 2 strand (each color) Tunisian crochet. It was definitely fun to make but I don't know if I am jumping to get more just yet only because I was turned off by how thin it really was.

*Temporary Photo of Pomegranate and Clementine Coasters and Hand Towel
Next we have a row of

Brava in Lady Slipper, Tranquil, Peapod, Custard, Rogue, and White

$2.99 for 100g ball
218 yards
100% Premium Acrylic
Worsted Weight
Knit: # 7-8
Crochet: I - K hook

I loved this yarn. It was amazing to work with. I had to make a diaper cover as a custom order on my shop and I thought what better way to test out their acrylic yarn then to use it for a diaper cover. It is really really soft as they say in their video review on their website. I also made a blanket that I absolutely loved and listed on my Etsy and I hope the buyer is pleased with how soft it is because I was seriously so in love with it by the time I finished it. :]

crochet baby shorts
(White and Rogue)

crochet baby pants
(Rouge and Custard)

Custom Order Diaper Cover
back (Lady Slipper and
Tranquil)

Custom Order Diaper Cover Front
Granny Line Blanket (Peapod, White,
and Custard)
The next row includes the Rogue and white and right next to that is

Brava in Sky and Fairy Tale

2.99 for 100g ball
136 yards
100% Premium Acrylic
Bulky Weight
Knit: # 10-11
Crochet: # K-M hook
I was just as impressed with this weight as I was with the worsted weight. I made a quick cute scarf with the Fairy Tale and a Newborn baby hat and Newborn Booties with the Sky color. ^_^
and last but not least

Shine in Cosmopolitan and Blush

2.99 for 50g ball
110 yards
60% Pima Cotton 40% Modal ® Beech Wood Fiber
Sport Weight
Knit: # 3-5
Crochet: E- 7 hook

I am in love with this yarn! It is super soft, super silky and I had no idea you could get beech wood fiber. Like what? I had no idea you could do such a thing. That is seriously super cool. Or at least I think so. However, I only got 2 balls of it and I wanted to make something cute like a baby dress or something once I got it. But before it arrived I thought maybe I could make a few hats or something but once I actually got it and felt it... I was like no way! That wouldn't do the yarn justice. So, when I make a purchase again (I've made 2 more purchases since this one) I will be getting more to make a nice baby garment (which will be my first) but for now it will sit, lonely, in its box til I am ready.

I am in no way affiliated with Knit Picks, I just simply wanted to share my experiences and projects and I hope to be purchasing from other companies in the future. I couldn't find very many reviews on Youtube or in google searches about the website. I did find one video that wasn't from Knit Picks Youtube channel and she had such enthusiasm I was very hopeful and decided to purchase. I usually do a lot of research on online shops before I actually buy from them. Call me paranoid but I don't particularly like buying off a site unless I know they are trusted. Knit Picks does not keep your card information so every time you purchase you have to plug in your information each time. I kind of  liked that about them when checking out.
Another thing about Knit Picks is that they take about 2-3 days to Process and to where I live about a week to deliver. They always ship out on Wednesday for me and it arrives the following Wednesday. You could pay for faster shipping, however it is $12. I became more patient after seeing that haha.

The Continuous Granny Square

The Continuous Granny Square Blanket is amazing. I sold my first one (Pictured up top and on the side) a little while ago. I love that you can pick any colors and it will still be a classic. I was planning on finishing it for Autumn so I chose vibrant autumn colors. Regular Granny Square Blankets are time consuming. I made 20 squares before realizing I needed like 100. That can be very daunting for someone who has little patience like I do. So I found the Continuous Granny square. Instead of ending the square you stared you just make it bigger and bigger. The one that I made (to the right) is Throw sized. The one on the bottom is baby sized (Also Available for Purchase Here ) You can make it bigger, or even smaller depending on your preference.
